The new Block 64 is now generally available

The ITAM industry has been making the same promise for over a decade: implement proper asset management and you'll reduce software waste by double digits.

The tools changed. The teams evolved. But the waste has only gotten worse.

Why? We think it’s because ITAM was designed for enterprise.

ISO 19770 gave you a framework—hundreds of pages, certifications, dedicated headcount. The tools cost six figures and took months to implement. Consultants charged thousands to tell you where you were over-licensed.

And the ITAM discovery platforms that were supposed to help? They showed you what you had. But they didn't tell you what to do about it.

Block 64 was founded in 2012 by practitioners living this problem. We spent years doing ITAM work, and the commercial tools kept letting us down. So we built our own. Over 14 years and 22,000+ deployments—working behind the scenes with Microsoft, VARs, and IT service providers—we refined what actually works.

Today, we're making the new Block 64 generally available. And for the first time, we're bringing it directly to IT teams.

For existing users, this release brings expanded SaaS visibility, a consolidated security view, new integrations, and enhanced licensing intelligence. For new users, it's the most complete ITAM platform available for mid-market IT teams.

Block 64 delivers IT teams unified visibility across software, SaaS, cloud, and hardware, with built-in licensing intelligence, at a fraction of the cost and complexity of enterprise tools.

Here's what's new and what's improved.

Software Licensing Intelligence

Traditional IT discovery tools tell you what you have. Block 64 tells you what it means, and what to do about it.

Most mid-market IT teams have some kind of discovery tool. It dumps thousands of rows of software into a spreadsheet. But it doesn't tell you "you have 6 PDF editors" or where you're over-licensed on Microsoft E5. And if you want someone to make sense of it? That's a consultant engagement.

Block 64 has licensing intelligence built in. So you get answers, not just data.

Key Features:

SAM & Licensing compares what you own against what's deployed across software publishers. For key titles, such as Microsoft SQL Server, Windows Server, RDS CALs, we've built in licensing intelligence that understands core licensing rules, virtualization rights, or Data Center vs. Standard calculations. The platform handles it and shows actual cost exposure, not just install counts.

Installs & Metering tracks every software installation with usage data. See what's actively used versus sitting idle. Identify shelfware before renewal.

Java Runtime identifies Oracle Java licensing exposure across NFTC, OTN, and commercial license categories. Under Oracle's current licensing model, a single production server running Java can trigger license requirements across your entire organization — this report shows exactly where you're exposed before an audit letter arrives.

Cloud & SaaS Control

Moving to the cloud is easier than ever. Keeping track of what you're paying for? That’s where things get difficult.

SaaS subscriptions multiply. Cloud instances spin up and never spin down. Employees leave, but their licenses don't. Developers provision for worst-case scenarios—16 cores, 64 gigs of RAM—then never revisit. Before long, you're renewing licenses nobody uses and paying for compute nobody needs.

Block 64 brings your on-prem, SaaS, and cloud environments into one unified view—so nothing gets forgotten and nothing gets wasted.

SaaS Usage & Licensing tracks actual usage across your connected SaaS applications and compares against license allocations. See who's actively using what, identify unused or underutilized licenses, and surface optimization opportunities before renewal.

We currently connect to 18 SaaS platforms including AWS, Azure, Microsoft 365, Google Workspace, Entra ID, Okta, Slack, Atlassian, Jamf Pro, BambooHR, and — new for this release — Zoom. Salesforce and Dropbox are coming soon.

Public Cloud Overview gives you unified inventory across AWS and Azure — compute, storage, database, networking — plus spend trends over the last 12 months.

Private Cloud / Virtual Environment shows your VMware and Hyper-V inventory with a density view of host utilization. Identify consolidation opportunities.

Cloud Sizing - Compute analyzes CPU and memory utilization against allocation. Find oversized instances wasting money—that VM allocated 16 cores but running at 10% utilization—and undersized instances hurting performance. Works across Azure, AWS, and on-prem. Hard numbers you can take to Finance.

Data Governance gives you visibility into how data is being shared across OneDrive and SharePoint — who's sharing what, with whom, and whether those links are internal or public. Most organizations have no idea how much sensitive data is exposed through shared links or misconfigured permissions. This report helps you identify exposure, monitor access controls, and support compliance requirements — a data point most IT teams don't have until something goes wrong.

The Intelligence Layer: Entitlements & Contracts

Without knowing what you've purchased, you can't identify over-licensing (waste) or under-licensing (risk). That's the gap we close for IT teams, without requiring additional support.

Key Features:

Entitlements is where you enter what you've purchased — license counts, agreement terms, what you're entitled to use. This feeds directly into SAM & Licensing, enabling the platform to compare what you own against what's deployed and surface compliance gaps or optimization opportunities. Today it's a guided setup; soon, AI will automate contract ingestion so you can skip the manual entry entirely.

Contracts centralizes software and SaaS contract management. The feature lets you track renewal dates, terms, and spend across all vendor agreements, so you can stop managing contracts in spreadsheets and email threads.

Software Library is the intelligence engine that powers Block 64 behind the scenes. It normalizes discovered software — cleaning up publisher names, titles, and versions — and enriches your inventory with end-of-life dates and MSRP pricing. This is what makes our licensing analysis possible.

Security Visibility

Our benchmark data shows at least 60% of endpoints have at least one critical vulnerability (CVSS 9.0+). We help you find and prioritize them. Block 64 surfaces security risks during discovery,  so you can act before vulnerabilities become incidents.

Endpoint Vulnerabilities gives you a single, holistic vulnerability score for every device — combining application vulnerabilities, antivirus status, and OS supportability into one view. See your riskiest endpoints at a glance and prioritize patching based on actual exposure, not guesswork.

OS & App Standards monitors operating system versions and application compliance across your fleet. Unsupported software is a security risk and a support burden. This report shows you exactly where.

Identity Providers monitors Entra ID and Google Workspace security posture — MFA enrollment gaps, locked accounts, password policy violations. Catch identity risks before they lead to unauthorized access.

Microsoft Secure Scores tracks your M365 security posture over time against Microsoft's recommendations.

SSL Certificates tracks certificate expiration dates across your infrastructure. This matters now more than ever: the CA/Browser Forum approved a phased reduction in SSL/TLS certificate lifespans — from today's 398-day maximum down to just 47 days by March 2029. That means more frequent renewals, tighter tracking, and a lot more room for expired certificates to cause outages. Block 64 helps you stay ahead of it.

Hardware, Integrations & Discovery

Visibility starts with complete, accurate data — and that means covering your full environment, connecting to the tools you already use, and deploying discovery in a way that actually fits your infrastructure.

Flexible discovery for any environment. Not every network looks the same, and we don't force you into a one-size-fits-all approach.

The Discovery Application runs agentless scans from any Windows PC — perfect for quick inventories or time-sensitive projects. The Virtual Appliance deploys on your hypervisor for persistent, real-time monitoring across complex or distributed networks. And for Zero Trust environments, remote workforces, or endpoints with limited connectivity, the Remote Agent installs lightweight agents directly on devices.

Use one method or combine all three. The data flows into a single unified inventory either way.

Hardware Overview and Warranty Tracking give you complete fleet visibility — what you have, what's covered, what's approaching end of warranty.
